Zhang Da Qian Museum . Neijiang

The painter Zhang Da Qian was born in Neijiang. He is known as the most legendary master of Chinese painting during the 20th century.

Neijian city is Zhang Da Qian’s hometown, the city is promoting itself by emphasizing Zhang Da Qian’s art.

On April 2010, Excellence group from Shen Zhen has invited Benedetta Tagliabue for the design’ museum. Zhang Da Qian Museum wants to reflect the friendship between Zhang Da Qian and Pablo Picasso. In 1956 they met in Paris, They changed ideas on art. Neijiang city would like to continue this friendship between the two artists, and moreover between the two cities where they were born, Neijing and Malaga.

The design philosophy behind the museum would be integrate the cultural essence of east and west and built, expressing the past and the future. Past is the tradition and culture, future is referring to upcoming art association, art facilities, and development of local art industry.

The site is located peak of Dong Tong Lu, Yuan mountain, west of Xi Lin monastery, south of Tuo River. The museum will be the landmark of the city.

Shapes and forms of the building referencing back to shapes and gestures from Zhangdaqian’s painting. The forms are organic, in terms of new technology, laminated bamboo structure allows to achieve organic shapes and interior spaces. The dialogue between the innovation and traditional values coincides with ZhangdaQian’s ideology.
