There are no unprecedented places. We will always find traces of a past time. What about buildings: we will find physical traces (traces , old constructions,… ) and intangible traces (culture, memory,… ). The proposal discriminates between those significant traces that establish alliances with the place and the present and encourages a new construction, from those that restrict it. Therefore, fearless of the past or prejudices, those that restrict a new construction should be discarded using common sense. Thus, there is an inescapable and almost unique premise: it is the opportunity to resolve and improve an urban space formerly occupied by the old market, which had a remarkable impact on the city of Reinosa. Truly, the new cultural center should be one of activity open to the citizens, but now is the best opportunity to find a better balance between the occupied and open urban space, for a place suitable for a homogeneous and free use. Therefore, the proposal creates a partially covered and well connected public space, supported by the activity that the cultural center can generate: a small cafe, convertible multipurpose spaces for associations, and a center of entrepreneurship. The proposal seeks to be guided by a simple architecture of controlled expressiveness, using elements and strategies reminiscent of the local architecture: rising from the ground to protect itself from the climate, including arcades or deep entrances, opening to the south for sunlight and a better and cheaper comfort. We try a quiet and lyrical architecture without disproportionate resources to the proposed objectives, therefore a sustainable (reasonable) architecture. The use of local materials and traditional construction techniques rooted it with its nearby context in accordance with the expected investment: an effective and elegant approach in local stone and wood.
