Octobre . ZEPPELIN . house of fairy tales

The purpose of this contest is to give the museum a place in the city, to express its own magic and share dreams. Reconfigure the museum in its location - make it an identity - will be the opportunity to see the influence of the city of Odense, change and grow.

The project from his program to his urban morphology, is designed as an island. The museum is distinguished from the surrounding urban fabric - finding a unique place in Odense. This distancing of the project with the rest of the city allows to express the gap of one reality to a magical world and stories. Visitors are encouraged to enter inside the village of Andersen. Composed of several adjoining buildings to each other, the project is built around a large green space creating a large urban terrace between the Andersen Museum and the Thinderbox. A parallel implementation that comes into confrontation with the front avenue - where outdoor spaces are open to the city.

The Challenge of a new Museum
Andersen museum plays a great reputation, which go beyond the limits of Odense, extends across the country - all around the world. At a time when the city is launching a major project to reorganize the city center via the draft axis (Avenue B. Thomas Thridges Gd.), it is essential that the museum is involved in this renewal, giving the city a new echo - even anchoring over the city of Odense in everyone’s minds.
Despite these news stakes for the museum, it suffers from a lack of consistency. The successive addition of buildings, results of multiples expansions, failed to make the whole thing coherent. Instead of gather and create a museum identity - these programs fragmented have lost some urban legibility, maintained in the rest of the historic district. These difficulties reinforce the lack of communication with the surrounding environment and the rest of the city, forcing the museum to focus on Lotze’s Garden. The Challenge of a new Museum This park with a high landscape quality, form the heart of the museum around which is wound the Tinderbox and Andersen Museum. However, this garden does not offer enough urban practices, it is not the image of the museum. Composed of several adjoining buildings to each other, the project is built around a large green space creating a distancing between the Andersen Museum and Thinderbox. A parallel implementation that comes into confrontation with the front avenue - where outdoor spaces are open to the city. The river, the island, the wooden matches, the snow and the ice, the lightening are some universal themes developed in fairy tales and especially in Andersens fairy tales. These themes are starting points for our project.
