This project is for a small summer retreat featuring a dog run.
The site is located between the ocean and a national highway. The highway is heavily trafficked, and the surrounding area is cluttered with fish processing plants and scattered houses, making it far from the ideal location for a peaceful weekend house.
I felt it was necessary for the architecture to significantly alter the atmosphere of the site. The concept I envisioned was a structure that would open its arms wide to shield the serene weekend time from the highway noise and chaotic environment.

Situated in the Jura Mountains, the building emerged from a series of coincidences and constraints, driven by curiosity rather than ambition, and by needs rather than desires. The initial absence of a building plot and a limited pool of resources proved to be a healthy challenge in the pursuit of the project. This sparked an “Excel” journey into cost-effective building and assembly methods, aiming to create a modest, sustainable dwelling that can be easily adapted to different sites. A sustained team effort, characterized by plenty of back-and-forth moments, involved various specialists and building companies, ultimately leading to a barn typology oriented along the north-south axis. The project focuses on an ambitious redefinition of the housing typology in La Floresta, doing so through an approach that seeks a common language for all of them. The rehabilitation is a meticulous process that pays special attention to the facade with the aim of restoring and preserving its original appearance, thus contributing to the preservation of the neighborhood’s architectural character. The “Julia von Bodelschwingh House,” located at Georg-Kolbe-Hain in Berlin-Westend, is a senior residence featuring 72 rooms and 13 barrier-free serviced apartments. Developed for the Gabriele Fink Stiftung and operated by the Hoffnungstaler Stiftung Lobetal, the building was designed by kontektum architektur to meet the needs of both foundations while blending seamlessly into its surroundings.
