MKM Museum Küppersmühle Extension . Duisburg
Herzog & de Meuron . + MKM
The MKM Küppersmühle Museum of Modern Art is receiving a building extension. A first draft is already in existence. This one allows for the implementation of the building extension with exhibition floor space of roughly 2,600 m2 on four aboveground floors on the east side of the Museum Küppersmühle with immediate accessibility to the head office. The drawings in the appendix provide an idea of the dimensions of the new building.
earlier scheme:
An approximately one-year planning phase will proceed the commencement of construction. This way, building will likely begin in 2016 and the extension can be completed by 2018.
The Ströher collection, with its roughly 1,500 works of art, encompasses central positions of international stature beginning with the 1950s up until the present under Georg Baselitz, Peter Brüning, Hanne Darboven, K.O. Götz, Candida Höfer, Anselm Kiefer, Markus Lüpertz, A.R. Penck, Gerhard Richter, Emil Schumacher, Bernard Schultze and many more.
The extended collection rooms make it possible in the future for artists and their works to present in a large context. Therefore, visitors receive both insight into the artistic development of individual artists as well as possibilities of comparing artistic production.
