The landscape of the Pineta di Arenzano exists today as the juxtaposition of the overflowing nature of the promontory with some extraordinary examples of modern architecture from the 50's and 60's, and some notorious cases of speculative expansion from the end of the century. A common language is employed but each unit is unique with its own peculiarities. Large windows that frame the panoramic views, green roofs that speak to the lush nature of the context, and slender, light structures are the themes that reappear in every house; stone, plaster and wood are the materials that identify with the local architecture and, more generally, the Mediterranean villa typology. The reinterpretation and the depiction of the elements present in the surrounding area create an opportunity to use certain architectural, environmental, and energetic devices that can serve as an occasion to establish new guidelines for the Pineta di Arenzano and a new approach to building in Liguria.
