Slice 1 – Contemporary Cultures – The idea of contemporary cultures at the heart of this project is linked to different definitions: culture from the point of view of farming, culture as knowledge and innovation, culture as local identity. The challenge of this project was to articulate them with a current reality that could lead to the regeneration of its qualities and to the creation of a new centrality.
Slice 3 – Tradition (revitalization) – The analysis of the whole territory elicited a strong desire of enhancing and rehabilitating the traditional values of the place. This reinvented tradition is composed by the revitalization of the local culture and agricultural practice, the promotion of sport and recreation and the ecological values that encourage research initiatives.
Slice 4 – Fluidity (road structure) – The understanding of traffic flows on the existing and planned roads, also led to the redesign of some problematic spots and to the proposal of a net, capable of continuing the current roads, always in search of a fluid and functional circulation.
(…)
Slice 6 – Green Areas and Fitness Circuit – Another intention is the territorial link between the Ardão Park and the Environmental Park at Veiga de Creixomil. The continuity of green areas and the creation of a new fitness circuit (biking and pedestrian walkway) showed the ability to unify the area.
(…)
Slice 10 – (New) Identity – The creation of an identity able to differentiate and mark the territory, that expresses its valuesbut distinguishes itself from the existing buildings, led to a design with strong communicative content.
Slice 11 – Volumetric fluidity (slices) – The identity tied to a volumetric language which is fluid and organic – irregular slices based on fruits and vegetable images – is capable of continuing the territorial links stipulated as initial goals.
(…)
Slice 17 – Versatility (Mixed Typologies) – Taking as a starting point the several programs suggested for the area, we opted for the combination of different uses: industry-trade, warehouse-housing, office-public buildings, trade-services-housing, among others.
(…)
Slice 19 – Laboratory-house – The attempt to bring the logic of the local house-typologies in line with the ongoing revitalization of traditional character, allowed us to combine the concept of typical house with garage/workshop at the ground level, calling it the Laboratory-house.
Slice 20 – Farming (parceling) – As a way to reorganize and revitalize the agricultural territory, the redesign of the land, which acquired new plots, allows that each housing program can match an agricultural parcel.
