This competition was a 48hours architecture marathon where we were supposed to design a cinematheque in the Douro’s river margin.Regarding the historical character of the interventionThis competition was a 48hours architecture marathon where we were supposed to design a cinematheque in the Douro’s river margin.Regarding the historical character of the intervention area, the first idea that emerged was to absorpt some of the inherent logic of the surrounding environment, in order to ensure cohesion of the project in the provided plot.

Thus, the concept of the intervention was drawn according to a new materialization of the typical traditional Porto-nineteenth century allotments and houses with short front and extensive depth with the respective backyards. In an attempt of dinamic flux and conformation of different spaces, visual sensations and frameworks, the diferent "lots" were gradually detached from each other until the final shape.Despite the fact that the terrain had an amazing panoramic view of the marginal of “Gaia”, we believe that the solution should step away from the most obvious option of opening large windows over the river, and instead open strategic frames in the different spaces, leadingpeople go into those spaces in a first moment and only then be confronted with the landscape, as if guided by a film maker that handles the panoramics through its camera.Reinforcing the formalism of the typical Porto’s house, it was followed the logic of the prominent roof, redesigned, from four to two waters. The material chosen for the cinematheque was ocher pigmented concrete with horizontal stereotomy to balance the project with the strong presence of the “Fernandina” historical wall . The choice of material also involves an attempt to camouflage the solution in the shade of the surrounding rocks looking for a parallelism with this material, reinforcing the project’s language and its aesthetic formality area, the first idea that emerged was to absorpt some of the inherent logic of the surrounding environment, in order to ensure cohesion of the project in the provided plot. So, since we think this is a good proposal and we still think that we did our best according to what was supposed,we thought that we should apply to your second chance.
