This study deals with inserting new buildings in one of the most beautiful geological sites in the world. The increased international awareness and the numerous visitors which came to the town of Belogradchik in the North-West of Bulgaria raised the problem of touristic development in this area. The town and its surroundings are one of those rural areas which had been a tourist attraction but now are long forgotten by people and authorities, a poor place, without economical perspectives, without incomes, without services and accommodation facilities. A site with extraordinary geological formations and hidden in the rural landscape, which through an unexpected event became overnight one of the most visited and popular places in Bulgaria.

The initiator of this project brought into discussion two issues: the tourist accommodation offer and holiday houses for sale. Apparently, the authorities have no strategy or development plan for the real-estate pressure, the best example being the hotel built just a few meters in front of the famous Kaleto fortress.
