On the adjacent site an independent tower volume is presented, forming a new closure for the beguinage courtyard as well as creating a forecourt to the city.
Both the forecourt and the new building are construed as an extremely flexible and multi-functional infrastructure. As such, the building can accommodate ever changing situations: the infrastructure functions as a ‘machine’. This refers to the process-oriented approach of Z33: the art house as ‘exhibition machine’.
