Overlooking the expanse of Lake Champlain in the 19th Century town of Essex, this 1,200 sq. ft. house for a writer is sited on a former nail factory foundation. The owner has a collection of square head 19th Century nails gathered over the years on this site. Windows correspond to the 24 chapters of Homer's Odyssey and are organized to project "Fingers of Light" into the interior volume. The main northeast wall has 14 windows; the southeast and southwest walls contain 5 windows, while the northwest wall is blank. The largely open interior ascends counter-clockwise through a series of spaces pierced by the light of the windows. A "prow" thrust toward Lake Champlain completes this upward spiral of space.

The port city of Qingdao, half way to Beijing and Shanghai and famous for its Tsingtao beer and hosting water sports during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, has one of the fastest growing economies in China. Meanwhile the city's cultural development lags behind.
The recent announcement that China's largest movie studio will be built in Qingdao represents that city's first deliberate insertion of culture into the urban fabric. The development of the Cultural and Arts Centre of Qingdao City (CACQ) will further accelerate the growth of the cultural sector.

The clients showed me the house where they intended to live if it was transformed , and became pleasant while surprising them. They asked me to see what we could do with the building, with no budget limit, no time limit, they just wanted a piece of art, a product that fascinated them where it feel good to live.
The work was remodeling a depersonalized home with typical popular construction marked by its outside rural interpretation. I decided to take the beach to my clients, so that they could feel everyday the proximity of the dunes, sand and worn wood.
It was very important to meet them exhaustively, as well as their tastes and their foibles, routines and pleasures, and present a solution: the SilverWoodHouse.

This is a project of the small apartment building project located in central Tokyo. While keeping away from the setback regulation, in order to obtain maximum private space, the building itself was concentrated on the south side, allowing for the emergence of a spacious balcony -continuous from the interior- on the north side.
By placing the water supply and drainage in the center and providing three windows to each room, natural lighting and ventilation can be achieved even when dividing the room into two parts.

Obsoleto #1 . 2013-2014
+ P420
Though she shows photographs, Alessandra Spranzi is not a photographer, but an artist who uses photography. This distinction might seem cavillous, or even obsolete: it dates back to the 1970s and has gradually lost its aptness to describe the evolution of the photographic language. But in Spranzi’s case, and that of this exhibition, in particular, it can be useful.

The juxtaposition of art and shopping presented the practice with the challenge to create a design an entirely new typology that would integrate two, often conflicting, worlds. The concept, has been to establish a lively architectural dialogue – via a celebration of views into the spaces (both gallery and retail) as well as a homogenising tiled design that presents a language throughout the building’s floor, façade and roof.

The Center of Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor “CRICOTEKA”, the symbol of artistic search for the individual path to creativity, crossing the border between the actor and the audience, between the creator and the and the recipient, engages everyone in an activity-game-collective play. The municipal public space constitutes both the stage and the audience; it is a venue for constant performance. Its value lies in effacing the borders between the inside and the outside, the space “flows”, it is shared. The creator, artist, residents and visitors all take part in the process, activity of creating space which can be shaped with selected objects, structures, means and methods. The Center of Kantor’s art should promote this message.

The final form of the Cultural Centre design was determined by two elements: the first, the situation and an urban context of the object, the second, its function defined by the programme. The existing, original cultural centre was also a source of inspiration, together with the adjacent ecological, educational farm and a survived country house at 7 Tarniny Street. The whole programme consists of two, interconnected buildings, however, each of them can function separately.

Designing a home for a family is like painting a portrait. A portrait’s success lies not only in the artist’s ability to express himself – but rather in the artist’s ability to capture the expressions, character, personality, or even the soul of those being portrayed. As an architectural portrait, the home is about creating a framework for interests and needs, wishes and dreams, requirements and criteria – in short – the life the family wants to live.

One of the aims in the design was to create a large top floor. From there one can enjoy a fabulous view of the city with a backdrop of the Alps in the distance. The house can be divided into two separate living quarters, as was the client’s request. As it stands, the house is being used as a family home. The border margins and the interpretation of the strict Swiss laws on top floors were the leading criteria behind the shape of the building.

In contrast to the conventional tower block with its central core, generic sequence of spaces, and peripheral load-bearing columns, a primary zone with a roughly structured space is created through the separation of these core functions; this serves as an expandable “residential base.” Because the individual cores connect to the façade, and as such directly access the exterior, it is possible to execute an extremely low-tech building. For example, the bathrooms are naturally ventilated and daylight reaches both the core zones and the open interior spaces. The four cores are comprised of the main entrance with support functions, two separate bathrooms, and a kitchen with an adjoining terrace. In between, the remaining space is free for the individual owners to shape as they wish.

Living-Garden Home attempts at redefining the single- family house to integrate architecture with nature. The classic household division into the living area, located in the ground floor and the sleeping area above was transformed into new typology. During the day, we should be able to interact with the environment, with the light (cognitive functions), whereas in the night, we appreciate separation from the environment (safety function).
