The new business complex 'Europaallee 21' comprises four office buildings designed by Max Dudler, Gigon/Guyer and David Chipperfield Architects. It is situated in the new urban district 'Europaallee', which is being developed adjacent to Zurich's main train station.
The masterplan for the area was developed by KeesChristiaanse.
The office building by David Chipperfield Architects (Haus Freischuetzgasse) is defined by its rational floor plan, which provides a maximum degree of flexibility through column-free interiors. This rationality is reflected in the facade, while being softened through the floor-height facade bands which meander in opposing directions. The resulting bas-relief appearance of the facade is intensified by printed synthetic mesh with different levels of perforation in the external glass panels.
