Park for All . Kamaishi
Toyo Ito . Architecture for Humanity
City of Kamaishi in Iwate prefecture became well-known from the story of "Miracle of Kamaishi". The students of Kamaishi East Junior High School ran out of their school to higher ground after the 2011 earthquake, and led the children of the neighboring Unosumai Elementary School by holding their hands and encouraging young ones to stay together.
Most of students survive because of they remembered what they were taught during an earthquake and tsunami drill that they have every year. These two schools are the ones that KYSIN-no-kai and Architecture for Humanity are providing with hope for their future through a baseball field and a community house.
Toyo Ito Associates & Architects (TIAA) designed the Park for All project. The clubhouse is equipped with a community room, locker rooms and a storage on the first floor, and an open-air bullpen / a spectator area on the second floor.
