Duggan Morris Architects . + The Shepherds Building
Duggan Morris Architects were commissioned by Helical Bar in 2013, through a competitive selection process, to conduct a site-wide refurbishment programme of an eight storey, 150,000sqft. post war concrete frame and brick faced building in Shepherds Bush, London. The central focus of this project, and the most visible intervention, is a new reception building and cafe which seeks to enhance the user experience and to better identify the central entrance to the building. This intervention, clad in a black metal skin, is highly visible when viewed along the length of this 150m long building, the cladding helping it differentiate from the original brick building. The visual impression of the scheme is a composition of cubic volumes, each designed to address datums of the existing building and the new proposed functions within.
