Crudo Carbón Cocido

+ isarch

In the current global crisis situation, Spain presented during the Venice biennale an outrageous' mountain made of rubble obtained from the demolition of Venetian buildings.

Almarcegui's work suggests many things, but it brings special attention to delusional models and social architectural processes. These patterns create new landscapes of waste and demand from us to rethink the role of buildings and even the nature of what is commonly kown as a building.
The project "carbon cocido" is located the mining area of Laciana and works with the possibility of another model of anti-education than reactive. For this we use force, the motivating impulse and the union of the parties to create a new type of temporary public space, which is built and destroyed at once.
Studying the influence of mining in Spain shows a cyclical urban reorganization. The rural subsistence economy virtually disappeared with the arrival of the industry. The low quality of new construction (linked to a time of rapid expansion) has consequences today in homes. But above all, the political, economic and social in recent years that have caused the mining no longer the economic environment of the people who live there.
Constructive developments (architectural) are linked to productive activity on place. Therefore, the proposal is not intended to solve only existing architectural problems but also seeks to generate new social dynamics over time.
Retrieving the experimental laboratory school system of Sierra Pambley (prior to the arrival of mining) tested a new pedagogy evolving from flood workshops, and summer camps. It is through a set of actions related to parties and carried out on the mountain (coal waste) of Villablino laundry, as this strange attractor is generated. Generating the condition of the public through the heat, the food and the group effort to build a common future.
The use of known construction techniques (shoring) and taking profit of Stock materials (coal, trucks, railway line, etc.) generated during the coal crisis, are made hollow and contention in the black mountain, while transforming Villablino urban environment . Inside the tomb, the program is organized through a series of holes, thermally controlled glories its coal consuming and using the inertia ends. The poor quality housing built with the arrival of mining is rehabilitated by the inhabitants thanks to the techniques learned in the workshops of the colonies.
Finally the project works in this coexistence of daily acts and construction of public pieces modifying the links culturally constructed with a constantly shifting landscape.

The coal stock generated by this industry decaying material longer stacked and passes used as building material (mixed resin) with their own geometries and as thermal control (until exhaustion).
It is through social structures, assemblies, workshops and colonies as new spaces are created. The renovated homes and schools become productive centers and new construction are complex ecologies that function as mechanisms of interaction between living things.

In summary, the project works with cultural material and equipment abandoned and tied to territory. The construction process is generating new ways of life and social dynamics using inherited structures and networks in constant celebration of life change through waste.
