House of writer . Montricher Sur Morges
FRPO Rodriguez & Oriol ARCHITECTURE LANDSCAPE . Fondation Jan Michalski
A powerful image came to our mind the day we started working on this project: the image of a city of lights. Cabins would hang from the canopy as lit inhabited lanterns that would give light to the city. But the lanterns of the House of Writing would host a special source of light: Literature.
A city of writers, a city of lights
This city of subtle lights will complete the Jura landscape at night, establishing a soft dialogue with the unique atmosphere of Montricher. During the daytime the lantern-cabin interiors will be lit with the almost Mediterranean clear light of Lake Geneva area, allowing perfect natural illumination. The hanging structures should be also light in terms of weight, real and evocative, as Thai paper lamps or a Noguchi design. Structures capable of holding the present but also of stating uncertainty over the future, as the whole project is understood as an urban promise, where the actors are the writers, more than the architects or the planners. The light of the ensemble will be directly related to creativity. If literary creation decreases, the power of light will be therefore softened. If writers’ work increases, more cabins would be needed and the light of the Foundation will be brighter and stronger.
