Behind the massive and unitary volume of the old Archbishop Palace of Ourense, we can find different architectural pieces from the Galician history assembled in one unique construction, from Romanesque style of XII century till the last proposal of the XX century.
This is the perfect container for the Archaeological Museum. Its architecture will house not only the exhibition but also it will be the main shining object and the house where the visitors can discover the remaining objects that the human being has left in the city of Ourense from the starting point of his existence.
Two different kind of times will share the space in the Archaeological Museum. On one hand we have the continuous time provided by the spatial mixture of the different ages (maybe this is the magic of the architecture, the possibility of manipulating the time) and, on the other hand, the linear and chronological time of the exhibition and the promenade of the visitors.
The proposal will clean and order the space, as the main ideas of the operation. It will recover the original architecture of each age, sometimes contaminated in several aspects by the different proposals of the additive process of changing the Palace.
In addition to this, the unique building of the new construction will be a light pavilion for temporary exhibitions in the upper garden. A magic carpet made of reflective aluminum.
After all, In front of the weight and gravity of the heavy architecture made of stone from the old ages, the new architecture of the XXI century will show not only a new kind of lightness, but also a new liquid and evanescent space in which gravity and soul will reach an effective peace together, in a perfect equilibrium.
"Only in the art, the great fight between the will of the spirit and the need of nature, has reached an effective peace. Thanks to this idea, the stress of the soul, that tends to heaven, and the gravity, that tends to the earth, it is solved the perfect equilibrium of architecture"
Georg Simmel
